The drive
Who out there has any tips on those long drives to the jersey shore with your kids. Driving over 3 hours with 2 kids is a nightmare, does anyone have any tips out there?
I don't feed my kids before I go. Eating in the car keeps them occupied for a while. I also tend to plan stops along the way if the trip is long. Each little stop is like a rest button that keeps them content a little longer. Audio books and portable DVD players or laptops also work if you can keep them from fighting over it.
The best of course is stories and humor. I can't say how many miles I made it towards Virginia with a story about vultures stalking broken down cars and and road kill trees with tree guts all over the road. The laughter makes them feel good and the stories get their imaginations working as they come up with new things to add.
It really helps when you have another adult in the car to trade off with.

I drive at night while the kids are asleep. It's easier on the kids and much easier on the adults as well.
